Preparing Your Trees for a Michigan Winter
Michigan winters can be rough on trees, even the ones that are native to our area. Some emerge in spring
Skip to content Trees offer big benefits for homes and businesses alike. They help prevent erosion, lower energy bills, manage stormwater, and add to your property’s curb appeal—not to mention increasing its value. But when a tree is damaged, diseased, or becomes a safety risk, removing it might be the safest choice. That’s when it’s time to call in skilled professionals who know how to do the job right.
Whenever you need a tree removed, calling in the pros is the smart move. Even small trees can be dangerous if not taken down correctly, and it’s not worth the risk to your safety or property. And while someone with a chainsaw and a pickup truck might seem like an easy option, proper tree removal takes training, experience, and the right equipment. – You need to rely on professional arborists, like the ones at Treemendous Tree Care. Our crews have the skills, experience, and equipment needed to get the job done safely, efficiently, and without damaging your property. We’ve been providing tree removal services in Macomb Township since 2019 and have made a name for ourselves in the community.
No two trees are the same—things like size, location, species, and overall health all factor into how a removal job needs to be handled. That’s why every project is a little different. But no matter what you’re dealing with, Treemendous Tree Care has the right tools and know-how to take care of it.
Here are some of the most common tree removal services we provide:
Sometimes, the simplest solution works best—cutting the tree at the base and using guide ropes to control its fall. This low-tech approach doesn’t require climbing or heavy machinery, which makes it one of the most affordable options. However, it’s not always a good fit, especially in tighter spaces where there isn’t enough room for the tree to fall without risk.
With the help of bucket trucks and aerial lifts, our team can remove trees safely and efficiently by working from the top down, one section at a time. Because no one has to climb the tree, this method is often quicker and safer, especially when dealing with trees that are too unstable or risky to climb.
If a tree is in a spot that bucket trucks or lifts can’t access, our skilled climbers can usually step in. They’ll scale the tree and take it down section by section, starting at the top and working carefully downward. That said, not every tree is safe to climb—if the structure is too unstable or damaged, we’ll suggest a safer approach to get the job done without risking anyone’s safety.
Sometimes, the best and safest way to remove a tree is with a crane—especially when it’s hanging over your house, near important structures, or in a spot that regular equipment can’t reach. Cranes let us lift and lower sections of the tree with precision, which is a big advantage when dealing with large trees. It cuts down the risk and helps keep your property safe during the process.
When a tree is on the verge of falling—or has already landed on a home or building—it needs immediate attention. The tough part is finding a tree removal company that can act fast when it really counts. That’s where we step in. We’re proud to respond quickly and handle the situation without wasting time.
Some tree removals are straightforward—but others? Not so much. Maybe the tree’s caught up in power lines, or it’s partially fallen and resting against another. These kinds of jobs can be risky and usually too complicated for crews without the right experience. At Treemendous Tree Care, our certified arborists are trained to handle even the toughest removals with skill and care, keeping everything safe and running smoothly.
We understand—your lawn, landscaping, and the surrounding environment are important to you. It’s completely natural to be concerned about damage from falling branches or heavy equipment during tree removal. That’s why we offer zero-impact removal. This method is designed to protect your property, prevent soil compaction, and preserve nearby plants and natural areas while we take the tree down safely.
Your Treemendous Tree Care representative will discuss the best type of tree removal for your specific situation and answer any questions you may have.
We truly have a passion for trees—it’s at the heart of everything we do. But the reality is, not every tree is growing in the right place. Sometimes, taking down one or more trees can actually bring some major benefits. Here are a few reasons why tree removal can be a smart move:
Trees can be a real safety concern, especially in high-traffic areas around your home, business, or yard. No tree is completely risk-free, which is why many people choose to remove them from these spots—to help prevent accidents and feel more secure.
Keeping a lawn healthy and full can be a challenge when big trees are nearby. They soak up water and nutrients your grass needs, and their shade blocks the sunlight that helps your lawn grow strong.
You may enjoy having a tree in your yard, just not the specific one growing there now. Removing it gives you the chance to plant something that better fits your landscape, aesthetic, or future plans.
Some trees never let up—dropping leaves, petals, fruit, or seeds nonstop and turning your yard into a constant chore. Removing these high-maintenance trees can free up your time and energy, so you can spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying your yard.
Some trees produce large amounts of pollen, which can be a major trigger for allergies—not to mention a mess on your car every spring. Removing high-pollen trees can help reduce allergy symptoms and keep things a little cleaner around your property.
Trees can be great for privacy, but not everyone wants their view blocked. Some people prefer a more open feel around their home or business. Removing a few trees can create that openness—and in some cases, it might even raise your property value.
Sometimes, removing a tree is simply a matter of personal preference—maybe you just don’t like it. And that’s totally okay.
Other times, it’s not really a choice—it’s the safest or most practical thing to do. A certified arborist should always make that call, but here are a few common signs that a tree might be dangerous:
If you see the ground around a tree starting to heave or lift, that’s a major red flag. It could mean the roots are failing or the soil has become unstable—both of which put the tree at risk of falling. If this happens, keep people and pets away and contact Treemendous Tree Care immediately for a professional evaluation.
A tree that’s in poor health isn’t always dangerous—but it can be a sign that the risk is growing. Some diseases move fast and can kill a tree within weeks. If you notice things like dieback in the crown, stunted growth, unusually small leaves, or yellowing foliage, it’s time to bring in a professional for an inspection.
Trees occasionally shed limbs that are damaged or affected by pests or fungi. While this can be part of the tree’s natural defense and doesn’t always mean it has to be removed, it’s still a warning sign. If you notice limbs dropping often or for no clear reason, it could point to a higher risk of future breakage—and it’s definitely worth having a professional take a look.
If you notice fungus near a tree—even something as small as mushrooms around the base—it’s a sign you shouldn’t ignore. That growth could be targeting the roots, slowly weakening the tree from below. Many types of fungi rot the wood inside, leaving the tree brittle and more likely to break or fall, even in calm weather.
Tree cavities might look charming at first glance, but they often point to serious decay. Even a small visible hole can mean there’s a large column of rot running through the tree. That internal damage can seriously weaken the structure, turning the tree into a potential safety risk.
When a tree starts shedding its bark—unless it’s a species known for naturally peeling bark—it’s often a sign of stress from pests or disease. Once the bark comes off, the inner wood is exposed, and the tree can no longer move nutrients effectively from its leaves to its roots. In many cases, bark loss is a serious warning sign, and the tree may die soon after.
Trees adapt to their surroundings as they grow. If a tree matures in a sheltered spot—like in the middle of a group—it may not develop the strength it needs to handle strong winds. So even a healthy tree can become unstable and at risk of falling if nearby trees are removed and it’s suddenly left exposed.
