The most common service requested, stump grinding is a process that relies on the use of a large piece of equipment, fittingly called a stump grinder. Essentially a large spinning blade with numerous teeth, the stump grinder gradually grinds the hard tree stump into a pile of nothing more than wood chips and dust. With traditional stump grinding, the stump itself will be removed, but the roots will be left intact. We can grind the stump down until it is level with the surrounding soil, or we can grind it a few inches below grade, if you prefer.
Instead of grinding the stump down, stump removal entails the physical removal of the entire tree stump and large portions of the root structure. But while a stump grinder is not necessary for this, we will use heavy machinery to help cut the roots and stumps and then pull it free of the ground. One of the benefits of stump removal is that you’ll be free to plant new shrubs or trees in the area sooner, as a significant portion of the roots are removed during the process.
Root grinding may or may not be performed alongside traditional stump grinding.
